Let me know what ideas you have for this. I really enjoy making these types of photos.

Perth Historical Events

Founding of the University of Western Australia (February 1911)

The University of Western Australia (UWA) was founded in February 1911 as the first university in the state of Western Australia. Its establishment was motivated by a desire to provide higher education opportunities for the local population and to promote research and knowledge development in the region. UWA was unique at its inception, being one of the few universities in the British Empire to offer free education, a reflection of its mission to make higher learning accessible to all, regardless of financial means.

The founding of UWA was largely driven by the efforts of Sir John Winthrop Hackett, a prominent public figure and philanthropist, who advocated for the creation of a university that would serve the needs of the rapidly growing state. Hackett's vision was to establish a secular institution that fostered intellectual growth and research. His substantial financial contributions and his role as the first Chancellor were instrumental in shaping the university's early development, allowing it to open its doors to students in 1913.

Since its founding, the University of Western Australia has grown to become one of the leading educational institutions in the country, known for its research excellence, diverse academic programs, and beautiful campus along the Swan River in Crawley, Perth. It has played a vital role in the social, cultural, and economic development of Western Australia, contributing to the community through education, research, and public service, while maintaining its commitment to accessibility and academic excellence.
